Video Playback Problems
Videos not playing, stuttering, or showing errors
If videos aren't playing correctly on your screens, work through these steps to diagnose the issue.
1. Check the format
Make sure your video is in a supported format: MP4, MOV, or WebM. Other formats won't work with Roomcaster. See Supported File Formats for full details.
2. Wait for processing
After upload, videos are transcoded for optimal playback across all devices. This can take a few minutes — longer videos and larger files take more time.
Check the Media page in your dashboard to see the processing status. If a video is still being processed, it won't play on your screens yet. Wait for processing to complete before troubleshooting further.
3. Large files
If you uploaded a very large or high-resolution file, that's unlikely to be the cause of playback issues. Roomcaster automatically transcodes all videos to optimized H.264 MP4 at up to 1080p, so even a 4K source file will play at the same quality and performance as a smaller one.
If the video is still processing (see step 2), a larger file may just need more time. Once processing is complete, file size should not affect playback.
4. Network speed
Streaming video requires a stable internet connection on the playback device. If videos are stuttering or buffering:
- Test your network speed on the device
- Try playing a shorter, smaller video first to see if it works
- Make sure the device isn't on a congested network
- Move the device closer to your WiFi router if possible
5. Device limitations
Older streaming devices may struggle with very high-resolution or high-bitrate content. Roomcaster automatically transcodes videos to appropriate quality levels for reliable playback, but extremely old devices may still have limitations.
If you consistently have issues with video playback, try uploading a short test video (30 seconds, 1080p MP4) first. If that plays fine, the issue is likely with the specific file, not your setup.
