Uploading Your First Media File
Add videos and images to your Roomcaster library
How to upload media
Adding media to Roomcaster is straightforward. All your files live in the Media library, where you can upload, organize, and manage everything in one place.
- From your dashboard, navigate to the Media page in the sidebar
- Click the Upload button
- Drag and drop files into the upload area, or click Browse to select files from your computer
- Your files will begin uploading immediately
You can upload multiple files at once by selecting several files or dragging a batch into the upload area.
Supported formats
Roomcaster supports a wide range of media formats:
| Type | Formats | Max Size |
|---|---|---|
| Images | JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG | 50 MB |
| Videos | MP4, MOV, WebM | 500 MB |
For the best results, use 1920x1080 resolution (Full HD) for both images and videos. This matches the native resolution of most displays and ensures your content looks sharp.
After uploading
Once your upload completes:
- Images appear in your Media library immediately and are ready to use
- Videos are automatically transcoded for optimal playback across all devices — this may take a few minutes depending on the file size and length
Videos are automatically transcoded for optimal playback on all devices. You don't need to worry about encoding settings — Roomcaster handles it for you. Transcoding typically takes a few minutes, and you'll see the progress in your Media library.
Organizing your media
As your library grows, you can keep things tidy using the built-in tools:
- Search — Use the search bar at the top of the Media library to find files by name
- Filter — Filter your media by type (images, videos) to quickly find what you need
- Change View - Toggle between a grid, list and table view to browse your way
Best practices
Here are some tips to get the most out of your media:
- Resolution: Use 1920x1080 (Full HD) for the sharpest display quality. Content will still play at other resolutions, but may be scaled to fit.
- Video length: For lobby displays, keep videos under 2 minutes. Shorter clips create a better viewing experience for people passing through.
- File size: Smaller files upload faster and load more quickly on your devices. Compress images where possible without sacrificing quality.
- Naming: Give your files descriptive names before uploading — it makes them much easier to find later in the Media library.
